1. Overview:
The "48 Hours in Kaikōura" Photography Competition celebrates the artistry and creativity of photographers through a captivating exploration of Kaikōura's landscapes, wildlife, and people. This annual event brings together participants from various backgrounds, including professionals, amateurs, and juniors, to showcase their unique perspectives and storytelling abilities.

2. Competition Categories:
Participants can enter their photographs into the following categories:

a. Portrait or People
b. Nature/Wildlife (Domestic animals should be in open section)
c. Land or Seascape
d. Dark Sky
e. Open

3. Competition Divisions (Levels of Entry):
To ensure fair competition, participants will be divided into the following divisions based on their experience and background:

a. Professional Division: For photographers who derive most of their income from photography.
b. Amateur Division: For photography enthusiasts and hobbyists.
c. Junior Division: Exclusively for participants under the age of 13.

4. Competition Timeline:

- Photo Shoot: The photoshoot will take place from 5:00 pm 26th to 5:00 pm 28th July 2024.
- Entry Submission: Participants can submit their entries online before 12:00 pm 11th August 2024.
- Judging: Entries will be evaluated by esteemed guest judges with expertise in various genres of photography.
- Winners Announcement: The winners will be announced and notified after the judging process is completed.

5. Entry Guidelines and Rules:

- All photographs must be captured within the Kaikōura district.
- Participants may submit a maximum number of 5 entries.
- All photographs must be captured within the designated 48-hour photo shoot period (image file EXIF must be complete).
- Entries must be original work taken by the participant.
- Minor digital enhancements, such as cropping, colour adjustments, and basic retouching, are allowed. However, significant alterations that distort the reality of the image are not permitted.
- Submissions should be in digital format, file size 1MB - 5 MB.
- A title and the chosen category and division must accompany each entry. You will be guided by this on the submission form.
- Entry is FREE for 2024.
- Participants must adhere to ethical guidelines and respect the rights and privacy of individuals and wildlife when capturing their photographs.
- By submitting their entries, participants grant the organizers the right to use the photographs for display and promotional purposes related to the "48 Hours in Kaikōura" Photography Competition, giving appropriate credit to the photographers.

6. Exhibition and Prizes:
Selected photographs will be showcased in an engaging online exhibition to be announced at a later stage. Prizes will be awarded to the top entries in each category and division, with specific details and sponsors to be announced closer to the event.

7. Copyright:
Participants retain the copyright to their photographs. However, the organisers request non-exclusive rights to use the photographs for display on this website and promotional purposes as outlined in the entry guidelines and rules.

8. Eligibility:
The competition is open to all photographers, provided they comply with the outlined rules and regulations.

9. Disqualification:
Entries may be disqualified if they do not adhere to the competition rules or if there is evidence of copyright infringement or unethical practices.

10. Communication:
All official communication regarding the competition, including updates, announcements, and submission guidelines, will be communicated through the official website and associated communication channels.
